Investing in Yourself is Selfish Done Right!

I discovered The Winning Edge on Instagram in April 2019. I am a bit of a procrastinator, but having just recently been involved a near death car accident, I realized that procrastination is no longer an option for me. I immediately decided to apply for a spot at the 2019 Sports + Entertainment Summit. I am an 8-time DI-A Collegiate National Champion dancer and currently a Sports Administration Masters student at the University of Louisville.
Attending the Sports + Entertainment Career Summit was truly a one of a kind experience. In two very fast paced days, we learned more from experienced professionals than most learn in four years of college. I never knew the impact of a lunch and learn exercise until I had no choice but to be a part of a couple at the summit. There are times, I lack confidence when speaking professionally, but I was able to spark a conversation with David Sherman, talent agent at WME, because of a common interest. A common interest is the gateway to a great conversation or even a job offer, a tip I learned at the Sports + Entertainment Career Summit.
Two of the many highlights that I have from the Sports + Entertainment Career Summit are the mock interview and resume review sessions. There is always an opportunity to grow and working with Nicholas Griggs on restructuring my resume was a lesson I didn’t know I needed, but so grateful I had! Strengthening my self-confidence is a top priority for me and having the chance to talk with Dr. Tasmin Plater about confidence and the right questions to ask in an interview was very insightful.
One of my life goals is to inspire at least one person a day and I have made it my mission to talk about The Winning Edge Leadership Academy as much as I can. Investing in myself is invaluable to my success and if I don’t believe in myself, my future employer won’t either. So with that being said, I promise Maria, Corinne and my OG co-hort family to speak with at least one stranger a week to get myself out there! I plan to continue networking with individuals in professional and college sports operations and marketing.
I take my exit exam in November and will graduate from Louisville with my M.S. in Sport Administration May 2020.
Then real life starts.
